A little place we like to call RALEIGH!!!

On Flat Stanley's last few days with us, we decided to take him to a few landmarks that are significant to Raleigh. Flat Stanley told me he was up all night and he couldn't sleep a wink because he was so excited about our trip. Our first expedition landed us in Moore Square which is right in the middle of downtown.

We showed him the famous Big Acorn. It was built in 1992 and represents the city of oaks (Raleigh). Every New Year's Eve, the Acorn is lifted up and drops when the New Year arrives. Flat Stanley tried to take a bite out of it and I think he might have chipped a tooth. He didn't realize it was made out of copper and steel. He might need to see a dentist once he arrives back to Ohio.
Kelsey wanted a close up picture with Flat Stanley. She made sure to give him another (remember, she LOVES Flat Stanley) big smooch for the photo. Don't worry, we gave him a good bath that night.

Afterwards we drove to the next landmark. Flat Stanley got a little car sick, so he stuck his head out the window to get some fresh air...poor fella!
Here Flat Stanley is in front of The North Carolina State University Bell tower. The bell tower was constructed to honor the NCSU Alumni that perished in World War I and World War II. When a major sporting event is won by the school the tower turns red. Flat Stanley really liked hearing the history of the bell tower. It was his favorite!
Finally, we ate lunch and then did a little shopping. We went to Target because we just LOVE that place. Flat Stanley ran up and down the escalator at the store. I had to catch him to get him to stop. I didn't want him to get hurt.
We walked down all the aisles and once we arrived at the children's clothing, Flat Stanley gave us a fashion show. He tried on almost 25 outfits. This was his favorite. It said "I Get my Muscles From my Dad!" How funny!
Flat Stanley was very interested in the smiley face toys. He begged for the new Mr. Bump. He was so mad when we told him he couldn't get it because it wouldn't fit in his suitcase home, that he threw a little tantrum. Where would he learn such a thing?
As we left Target, we came upon a water fountain. Flat Stanley wanted to jump in, but I stopped him by reminding him that I didn't' have any change in clothes for him. Flat Stanley ended up throwing in a coin and making a wish. We tried to get him to tell us, but he wouldn't. He said if he would have told us, it wouldn't come true. I guess he was right.

Today was full of information about North Carolina's capital. Flat Stanley learned so much and we were glad to share these special places with him.
Flat Stanley has been with us for almost 2 weeks now. We have spent many wonderful adventures with him and hate to see him leave. He has been such a huge help around the house and so friendly to everyone he comes in contact with. Please take care of him when he gets back to Ohio. We hope he had fun and maybe he can come see us again this summer :) Today is a sad, sad day. We love you buddy!

A Week at a New School

This week Flat Stanley went to work with me at Smith Elementary School. Since I teach 4th grade, Flat Stanley was excited to spend a few days as a BIG 4th grader....but he really didn't get any BIGGER....hmmmm!

Each morning, Flat Stanley had to check in at the front office to get his visitors pass. He loved to make faces at the camera. I had to tell him constantly to calm down and show the camera his "pearly whites"....what a silly guy!

Immidiately he would bug me for his morning java (coffee). I know I told you about his coffee addiction earlier...I was NOT kidding. I quickly brewed him a nice fresh pot each day that would last him the entire morning.
Flat Stanley was very popular at our school. Here he is getting to meet all of his teachers for the week at a quick morning staff meeting honoring his arrival. I made sure he stayed pretty busy. I had him run copies with all that paper in front of him in this picture. I don't know who taught him how to do it, but Flat Stanley sure knew a lot about making copies. Once school started, Flat Stanley would race to his desk and be the first to complete his morning work. He was a fantastic example for the rest of my class. As soon as they saw what he was doing, they were eager to copy him. Flat Stanley's favorite subject was math. He already knew all his multiplication and division facts...unbelieveable!!!

Flat Stanley really wanted a classroom job, so I gave him 2 choices: he could be the janitor or the line leader. Somehow I knew he would choose the easiest job...he became our youngest line leader of the year. (By the way...the janitor position is still open if someone is interested???)

After each morning full of lots of hard work, we would all go to the cafeteria for lunch. Flat Stanley loved our cook's hot pockets. He asked the chef quietly one afternoon, "Can I have the secret recipe to take back to Ohio with me?" I saw her slip him a piece of paper into his pocket...I wonder if that paper had the recipe on it??!?!?
The weather was wonderful this week...we were able to go outside everyday. Flat Stanley played football with the boys and hopscotch with the girls. He was becoming quite popular. He really worked up a sweat playing so much...
which caused major dehydration. Flat Stanley became a huge waterfountain-hogger. He drank so much water he began looking like an enormous bouncy ball.
Now I would love to say that the entire week went well, that Flat Stanley got along with everyone, and that he was the student of the week, but there was an issue Flat Stanley and I had to deal with almost every day....RUNNING DOWN THE HALLS!!! Whenever he would notice that I wasn't paying attention to him, he would turn and run...and I mean fast! No one could keep up with him.

His punishment was time in the "Blue Dragon Quiet Room," and trust me, no one wants to ever end up there. Only the scariest teacher of all deals with the disobedient students...the ISS teacher Mrs. Swamp. He cried a few times, but he never really learned his lesson. Poor thing!
Flat Stanley got along well with all my studnets and really taught them a lot. He was an amazing student and we will miss him tons!
On his last day, the Principal and Assistant Principal gave him a good-bye handshake. They were very impressed with this bright student.

Smith Elementary will miss Flat Stanley. Good luck on your trip back home.

The King of Egg Hunting

Happy Easter everyone!!! We took Flat Stanley to Rockingham, NC (home of Rockingham Speedway Race Track), to hang out with our family for Easter Weekend. Flat Stanley didn't want to ride in the car, so he rode an enormous dog to get there. Flat Stanley named him Chewy because he loved to chew on Five Gum (that's Flat Stanley favorite commercial).
Once he arrived, he plopped himself down at the table to have his breakfast and morning coffee....he HAS to have a cup first thing everyday or he's a huge grump!
When he finished, we introduced him to all our family. He grabbed the camera and took a few snapshots:

Shortly after, he took a picture of some eager egg hunters off in the distance. He ran as quickly as he could and grabbed his Easter egg basket. He sped past all the other hunters and began snatching all the eggs.
We couldn't believe our eyes!!! After a few minutes, there were so many eggs in his basket we knew he had done the impossible...he captured the most eggs and became the "King of Egg Hunting!" We were so proud!!!

Flat Stanley stuffed himself full of Snickers and Resses Cups and candy bracelets and Nerds and all sorts of other yummy candy. We ended up driving Flat Stanley back home and leaving Chewy in Rockingham. There was no way Flat Stanley would be able to handle an hour of galloping. Before we left the "Rock," we took a quick visit to the Race Track!

What an EGG-citing trip!

Visit to the Bank

After an awful busy first week in North Carolina Flat Stanley wanted to see what Aunt Candy and I did for a living. When I told him that "I" get to play with other peoples money for a living he didn't believe me...so I took Flat Stanley to work with me.

After a short drive into work Flat Stanley was bursting with energy and excitement. I got all the doors unlocked and in the blink of an eye, Flat Stanley went right for the money.

Before I could even get the camera ready he was rolling around on the floor on a bunch of $100 bills. And as you can see by the look on his face he was more than excited to be there.
After Flat Stanley cleaned up his mess we moved onto the real work....answering the phone... making copies... and helping customers. We did that for a good 3 hours when all of a sudden, Flat Stanley got bored and wandered off when I wasn't looking.
After a few minutes of searching around the branch, something caught the corner of my eye. Sure enough Flat Stanley had watched me make copies and decided he would jump onto the photocopier and start making copies of himself. Don't believe me? Take a look for yourself.
By the time I was able to get Flat Stanley off the photocopier, our day was over. I showed him all the things I have to do before we could return home. I could tell he was ready to leave because I heard him mumble, "Finally!!! That's the best news I've heard allll day!" So both of us got cleaned up and went back home. It was a great end to a great day!

What a helper!

Flat Stanley was such a BIG help! This morning after breakfast, we went to Target to buy prizes for the Easter Egg Hunt we will be attending this Sunday. I had Flat Stanley sit in the passenger seat, but he wanted to show off his driving skills that Hannah had taught him...

So I gave in and let him drive! I have to say he was a pretty sweet driver!!!

We looked around and really didn't see anything worth buying, so Flat Stanley came up with the idea of looking at the Dollar Tree. That was the best idea ever! I can't believe I didn't think of it myself. So we went to the Dollar Tree and purchased a bunch of prizes to put in our plastic Easter eggs.

Flat Stanley helped me stuff the eggs once we arrived home. The prizes he chose were fantastic!

Afterwards, Flat Stanley was getting a little antsy, so I let him play outside for awhile. Here he is climbing the tree in our backyard:
Flat Stanley was a huge help!! I'm so grateful he's with us! Tomorrow he will be going with Uncle Jon to work at Suntrust Bank. We haven't told Flat Stanley yet because we want to surprise him! Can't wait to see what fun they'll have tomorrow!

The Arrival!!!

Flat Stanley arrived today in Knightdale, NC! We were so happy he arrived safely and in one piece. His clothes seemed to be nicely pressed and he looked fabulous. We have so much to show him during his short visit here. Shortly after showing him around the house, Flat Stanley and Kelsey hung out in the living room a little bit while she showed him her toys. They had an instant connection! She loves giving him kisses!

Flat Stanley was exhausted after his trip and play time, so we let him go to the guest bedroom to sleep for the night. He has a huge adventure ahead of him this week!

Good night Flat Stanley!
